The Year I Became a “Runner”

On January 10, 2016, I made the mistake of signing up for the B.A.A. Distance Medley. The Medley, organized by the Boston Athletic Association (the same people behind the famed Boston Marathon!), consists of three races yearly: a 5K in mid-April, a 10K at the end of June, and a half marathon in mid-October.

At this point, the longest race I had ever “run” was a 5K, which I admittedly struggled to get through without stopping to catch my breath. Signing up for the Medley was my new year’s resolution – I had put down more than $200 hoping that the price would finally motivate me to get off my butt and actually train for a race.

On Writing (Again)

*Unrelated: How is this possible?? How is a digital version of the book more expensive than a physical copy??*

It’s college graduation time once again and many of my now-college graduate friends have asked me over and over again – “How is working life?”

I always give them the same monotone answer. “It’s the same thing. Every day.” My eyes always drift upwards, I always let out a short sigh.

(My boyfriend hates this. “We do things!” he corrects. “We do lots of things!” I admit, I make postgrad life sound like the worst thing ever. It really isn’t… but…)

Perspectives: Uber

Here in Boston, Uber has slowly (but surely!) become the transportation method of choice. In my freshman year, I had never heard of it. After hearing about it for the first time, I was skeptical. Time went on — I tried Uber for the first time, was satisfied, then continued using their services. Now, nearly everyone I know here at school is comfortable using it, some even calling one on a semi-regular basis.

Hearing about Uber’s most recent round of funding made me sit down and think about their services and the role they have played in my life so far. As one of my friends likes to summarize, “Uber wants to turn cars into a service.” But how far off is this goal?
